Lafayette bans on-street parking in winter

The Lafayette Committee recently amended a parking ordinance banning parking on the street between Nov. 1 and April 30 at its May 20 meeting.

The ordinancce's previous form only prohibited parking between 10 p.m. and 6 p.m. during those times.

After a full discussion on the ordinance at the May 6 meeting, committee members felt eliminating the time will eliminate issues caused by weather-related parking.

“The problem with the previous ordinance is that it has the time on it," Mayor John D'Angeli said. "It could snow before that, or at any time. We can eliminate the time but keep the dates."

In addition to prohibiting parking during all hours, D’Angeli said the the new ordinance will no longer allow parking on roads or streets during weekends and holidays during the restricted months.

This changes the previous ordinance, which allowed parking during the day time, regardless of what day of the week it was.
