Jefferson 5K planned for Oct. 7

OAK RIDGE — The Junior Woman’s Club of Jefferson Township (JWCJT) is sponsoring the 20th annual Jefferson 5K Memorial Wrobo Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 7.
The event, open to all ages, begins at the municipal complex at 9 a.m.
The JWCJT is seeking sponsors for this event at the following levels: One ($500+), Two ($250-$499), and Three ($100-$249). Donations received after September 15th will be announced the day of the event.
Eighty percent of the proceeds will be donated to Blue Star Mothers of Northern New Jersey-NJ6, a subsidiary of Blue Star Mothers of America. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing support for active duty personnel, promoting patriotism, assisting veterans’ organizations, and undertaking other efforts to support U.S. troops. It was started by four moms in 2017, each of whom has one or more children in the military. Some members also have spouses who have served or are currently serving. As friends, they supported one another, but wanted to do more by reaching out to other moms and sharing their experiences. Blue Star Mothers proudly display flags in their homes to honor their children who are protecting the country’s freedom.
Twenty percent of the proceeds will go to a scholarship honoring students graduating from Jefferson Township High School. Awardees display an extraordinary level of civic dedication via volunteer efforts throughout their lives, along with exceptional academic achievement.
The Junior Woman’s Club is a nonprofit community service organization dedicated to the betterment of Jefferson Township residents and the community overall. The JWCJT sponsors many events throughout the year. The Wrobo Run was established to honor Second Lieutenant John Thomas (J.T.) Wroblewski, an Oak Ridge resident who succumbed to injuries sustained while battling in Ramadi, Iraq. J.T. was a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He joined the Marines only days after the 9/11 attacks, determined to make a difference. The JWCJT strives to keep his memory alive in conjunction with its efforts to make a difference in the community, as J.T. strove to do for his country.
