High Point Hike planned in park

| 01 Oct 2015 | 03:14

Dave Alcock, outings chair of the Skylands Sierra Club Group, will lead a free hike at High Point State Park on Sunday morning, Oct. 11.

Anyone wishing to participate can meet up with the group at the Monument Trail Loop parking area at 10 a.m. Drivers entering the park from Route 23 will be able to follow park signs pointing the way to this parking area.

Monument Trail Loop takes hikers roughly 3.5 miles to the highest point in New Jersey, 1803 feet above sea level. When the group reaches the monument, anyone interested in climbing the steps to the top of the monument will be encouraged to do so. The group will then finish the loop and return to the parking area.

Participants will be able to enjoy the peak of the fall foliage colors and will have the opportunity to snap some great photographs.

In the event of heavy rain, the hike will be postponed. If the weather is questionable, Dave Alcock and the hikers who meet up at 10 a.m. will decide as a group whether to proceed with the hike.

It is not necessary to register in advance for the hike, but Dave Alcock can be contacted to answer questions by calling his cell phone, 973-879-9161, or emailing dwhoob@hotmail.com.
