Golffest kicks off with tournaments

HARDYSTON — The Crystal Springs Golf Resort’s GolfFest kicked off with the playing of the Macallan Hickory and Scotch Golf Tournament at Ballyowen Golf Club on Thursday, May 15.

The event was sponsored by Macallan Scotch and featured the tasting of their product at three stations on the golf course. Each participant was also be given a commemorative bottle of Macallan scotch whiskey.

The two-person team of Shoeman and Gordon emerged as the event champions with the team of Eric Smith and Matt Mitchell finishing in second place. The skill event winners were Sam Kestin for men’s closest to the pin on hole number 6 and Buffy Whiting for lady’s closest to the pin on the same hole. Longest drive honors went to Matt Mitchell for his drive on hole No. 13 with Ginger Margoli emerging as the long drive winner for the ladies. The best performers on the designated Hickory hole, the team of Buffy and John Whiting also won a prize.

GolfFest continued on Friday, May 16, at the Crystal Springs Country Club, featuring a presentation by Sean Hogen, the Director of Operations for the Crystal Springs David Leadbetter Adademy and coach for several of the PGA Tour’s best golfers, including Ian Poulter and the LPGA Tour’s Suzann Pettersen, rides on a space-age Hovercraft, free club fittings and clinics, fun-filled family golf, and the exciting new crossover sport – FootGolf.
