The owners of Fretta's Italian Food Specialities at 223 Broad Street announced last week that the shop is closing on May 31 after two decades in business in Milford.
The fifth-generation salumeria was established in 1906 in Little Italy, NYC, and Brooklyn, moving to Milford in 1998. Its specialities include store-made dry sausage, soppressata, pancetta, capicola, pepperoni, cacciatorini, and cheeses, plus soups, salads, and sandwiches.
Their Facebook message announcing the closure is as follows:
“'It’s Time' that we make the announcement to our valued customers and friends that we will be closing the doors on Friday, May 31st, after 21 wonderful years.
"Joe and Denice would like to thank you for your business, loyalty, and support over the years. We have spent this time doing what we love best, and been able to do it in such a beautiful area...and we thank you.
"We have been dedicated members of the Milford business community and have decided that now is the right time to turn our focus on our family.
"We will forever cherish the memories with our dedicated employees and customers who have been like family to us.
"We wish the entire Milford community continued success.
"Please stop in the next couple of weeks we would love to see you all!"
