FRANKLIN — The seventh-grade class at Franklin Borough School recently participated in a leadership experience at YMCA Camp Linwood MacDonald in Sandyston.

After learning proper techniques of strapping in to a harness and climbing, the students were able to climb to the top of a 25-foot rock wall. They also got a chance to try the low-ropes course which entailed working as a team in order to complete various activities including swinging ropes, cable cords, and log walks. Working together and helping one another was the only way to complete each task. Another team-building activity included field activities that required the students work together during this time to complete various games and “win” as a team.

Students also broke into groups to learn basic survival skills. The counselors helped the students review basic needs to survive as well as safety tips for hiking, camping, and being in the woods. Students were able to build small, sheltered areas by putting sticks together which were then covered by a tarp to form a temporary shelter.
