Concert to benefit SCARC

NEWTON — Calling all fans of “The Nerds” band. The Nerds will be performing a benefit concert to benefit SCARC on October 11th, 2018 Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Sussex County College Performing Arts Center in Newton. Come out and see a great show and support SCARC.
This benefit concert will help the SCARC family of services to provide recreation programs including summer camp experiences, basketball, swimming, bowling, and dances; respite care which provides a much needed break for families who have a child with a disability; and guardianship services which helps guide families through the legal process of becoming the legal guardian for their disabled family member. SCARC stands for Sussex County Association for Retarded Citizens. It is the Sussex County chapter of ARC.
The Nerds are a high-energetic, cover band guaranteed to get you out of your seat. Often imitated but never duplicated, The Nerds have been redefining what it means to be a cover band since 1985. Over the years, Spaz, Biff, Stretch, and Mongo have graced stages from the Jersey Shore to Las Vegas, earning their reputation as America’s Party Band Fun-omenon every step of the way.
“The success of this particular concert will help the SCARC Foundation provide extra funds to help supplement outside funding budget cuts that SCARC has incurred,” said Deborah Poust Johnson, a SCARC Foundation Board Member from R Poust Heating & Cooling. “Our goal is to do our best to make sure the clients and families receive the same excellent services they are used to receiving from SCARC. With The Nerds concert, we decided to think outside of the box and reach out to some who perhaps haven’t participated in SCARC Foundation fund raising events. And to have some fun in the process.”
“Almost as important as raising needed funds for SCARC clients, the Foundation is bringing more entertainment options to Sussex County and I personally guarantee NO ONE will regret getting into this performance., added Robert “Mike” Dolan, a SCARC Foundation Board Member
Said SCARC Foundation Board Member, Don Hall, “These extra events that we sponsor are not only fun for us and the community, but they also help us provide the little extras that help make the lives of persons with developmental disabilities a little happier.”
In addition the funds raised will help continue the county-wide services that SCARC provides to our local individuals with developmental disabilities including a county wide network of 22 residential homes, seven supportive living apartments, seven employment and activity day programs, including the Harvest Home program which provides food to 700 needy families each month and many family support services. This year, SCARC will provide services to nearly 650 people with developmental disabilities.
