The Col. Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Sussex County Community College’s Student Center Theater in the D Building.

Featured speaker Dr. Brad Gottfried will present “After Gettysburg — Race to the Potomac: Meade’s Pursuit and Lee’s Retreat,” examining whether Union Gen. George Meade moved too slowly, how effectively Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee conducted his retreat and whether President Abraham Lincoln’s frustrations were justified.

Gottfried holds a doctorate in zoology and previously taught at three colleges before entering academic administration. He served as president of Sussex County Community College from 2000 to 2006 and retired as president of the College of Southern Maryland in 2017. He now writes historical works and is a certified Antietam battlefield guide and licensed Gettysburg town guide.

Admission is free, and donations are appreciated. A book raffle will follow the presentation. Information about joining the group’s leadership team will be available at the meeting.

More information is available through the Colonel Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table website.
