The Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp staff and campers recently held a fun activity turning it into a fundraising event to help support Jefferson Township Fire Company No. 2's fund to purchase a new fire boat.
Coordinated by the Camp's Program Specialist Ashley Nimmo, a Most Wanted Contest was held during the program's Wild West Themed Week complete with Wanted Posters of each candidate — Assistant Field Supervisor Katelyn Cannarozzi, Ropes Course Certified Instructor Ralph DiSordi, Camp Director Terry Koontz, and Head Counselor Mike Smith. Everyone voted by donating money — primarily pennies — into each candidate's jar.
In the end, $200 was collected, and the winner was declared to be Camp Director Terry Koontz who was gently "pied" with a whip cream pie that very hot summer camp day by Miss Ashley. Second runner-up Head Counselor Mike Smith was also "pied" but Camp Director Terri McCarney rubbed that whip cream pie all over his face and through his hair, much to the delight of the excited campers as they watched and cheered.
The Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp program just completed its 13th year of operation hosting 646 campers this season in grades PK through 8th grade with the majority coming from northern New Jersey but also from as far away as California, England, and India with a staff of 140 full-time Head and Senior Counselors, full time and part time Specialists, before and after care staff, and Counselors in Training, an Assistant Director, and three Directors.
The 2017 camp season will open on Monday, June 26 and run for a total of eight weeks and closed on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017.
