The National Art Honor Society of Wallkill Valley Regional High School held its annual "Empty Bowls" charity fundraiser on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Faculty and staff were invited to donate $7 to choose a handmade bowl from over 90 student made ceramic bowls and fill it with unlimited soup and bread donated by local restaurants and staff members.
The guests were asked to keep their bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls of the hungry in our area. Nearly the entire faculty, staff and administration attended and $660 was raised to benefit the Franklin Food Pantry.
The 11 delicious varieties of soup were graciously donated by The Irish Cottage, Tony's Pizza and Pasta, Café e Dolci, Sit and Chat Franklin, Double S Diner, Pomodoro Italiano, the Wallkill Valley cafeteria, and teachers Maryann Simmons and Jeff Colarusso. Ronetco Shop Rite donated the paper products. Empty Bowls is a product of the Imagine/Render group, a non profit organization dedicated to positive and lasting social change through the arts.
