Annual wrestling event returning to Lafayette school

For the third straight year, Lafayette School will host to the Pro Wrestling Champion’s Brawl Lumberjack Match to benefit the Student Council.

Although the entertainment begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, students during the school day will have an assembly with the wrestlers, who will discuss topics of character education, success, and bullying.

Someone who knows all about success is Lafayette Vice Principal, Gerard Fazio, who has spent the last 35 years wrestling all over the world.

“I have had great success, so whatever I can give back in speaking to students about success and following your dreams, my colleagues and I always jump at the opportunity. I am so grateful the wrestlers take the time out of their busy schedules to do me a favor,” Fazio said.

Although Fazio considers his true passion to be teaching and coaching, he fondly remembers his many years of wrestling as a positive experience.

“(In the last 35 years) I’ve held 6 championship belts. Wrestling has been my passion that has turned into a hobby,” Fazio said.

East Coast Professional Wrestling, the family-oriented wrestling company, has helped raise thousands of dollars for schools, hospitals, police, and even Hurricane Katrina victims within its last 20 years in business. With a soft spot for fundraising, ECPW has had their fair share of events in Sussex County. The Wantage Elks Lodge and Wallkill High School recently held events to raise money.

“Our students for the last few years have just raved about (this event), and it’s a fun night with everyone getting involved,” said Fazio.

Twelve wrestlers are set to appear at Lafayette School. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m., with a bell time of 8 p.m.. General admission tickets can be purchased at Lafayette Township School, 178 Beaver Run Road for $15 each.
