Nationally, there is a drug related death every 19 minutes with a large percentage being caused by prescription drugs.

In Sussex County, there were nine overdose deaths in a six-month period due to either heroin, prescription drugs or heroin and prescription drugs.

To get a better understanding of this issue and to see why Route 23 has been referred to as heroin highway, join The Center for Prevention and Counseling for their annual substance abuse conference on Nov. 1 for a day featuring experts in the field of substance abuse and law enforcement who will help to explain what is causing this epidemic, along with solutions for confronting these problems head on.

Hear speakers from the attorney general’s office, Thomas R. Caclcagni and Douglas S. Collier, as well as the director of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM) and author of the book, “Reefer Sanity,” Kevin Sabet, Ph.D.

If you are concerned about the drug epidemic in Sussex County, come and listen as the most current information and approaches to solutions are revealed.

This event will be held at Perona Farms, Andover, from 8 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m., with breakfast and lunch provided. Registration fee is $55 with six hours of continuing education and professional development credits provided at no extra fee.
