Libraries schedule winter programs

    Children and Family Programs Lap Sit Program Libraries are starting a new session of books, songs, fingerplays and more for ages six months through two years and their siblings. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Program runs from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at all branches. Registration begins Jan. 4, 2010. Sussex-Wantage: Tuesdays, Jan. 19 to Feb. 9 Dorothy Henry: Wednesdays, Jan. 20 to Feb. 10 Louise Childs: Thursdays, Jan. 21 to Feb. 11 Main Library: Thursdays, Jan. 21 to Feb. 11 Franklin: Fridays, Jan. 22 to Feb. 19 Preschool Story Time January begins a new session of stories, songs and activities for children ages 3 to 6 and their siblings. Caregivers are also encouraged to participate. Program runs from 1:30 to 2:10 p.m. with the exception of Dennis which will meet from 10 to 10:40 a.m. at Project Self Sufficiency. The book meeting starts at 6:15 p.m., followed by skating from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. LEGO Club Starting this January the Main Library will be hosting a LEGO® Club for children in grades 1 through 6. Each meeting will have a theme, a book talk and an hour of LEGO creating. The program will meet the third Saturday of the month, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., through March, with registration ongoing. Anyone who would like to donate LEGOs for this program should bring them to the Main Library only (125 Morris Turnpike in Frankford). Cup #2 Tea Party One Book/One Community of Sussex County is sponsoring a Cup #2 Tea Party at two branches to celebrate “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortensen, this year’s OB/OC title. The theme of this second cup will be friendship, and the celebration will include an activity, craft, book readings and snack. Main Library: Monday, Jan. 25, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sussex-Wantage: Saturday, Jan. 30, 11 a.m. to noon Teen Programs Just Us Teens Book Club The club meets the third Wednesday of each month and for January the club will be discussing “The Uglies” series by Scott Westerfeld. Open to teens entering grades 7 to 12, no registration required. Main Library: Wednesday, Jan. 20, 7 to 8 p.m. Adult Programs New Jersey Writer’s Society The New Jersey Writer’s Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping writers connect and encourage each other. All are welcome to come and enjoy the challenges of becoming better writers, defeating writer’s block, learning from each other, and perfecting the craft. No registration required. Main Library: Thursday, Jan. 7, 7 p.m. Ear Infections & Antibiotics: The Truth Every Parent Should Know Presenter: Dr. Stetzel of Branchville Family Chiropractic Sponsored by the National Wellness Foundation The diagnosis of ear infections has risen nearly 60 percent in the last 20 years. It is estimated that 85 percent of children will suffer from ear infections, and they are the #1 cause of visits by children to pediatricians and emergency rooms. Stetzel discusses this negative trend and the possible dangers of current standard treatment. Registration required. Main Library: Wednesday, Jan. 13, 7 p.m. Adult Book Club “Lucky Man” by Michael J. Fox will be discussed. The popular actor recounts his childhood in western Canada, his rise in film and television, his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, and how he has worked to raise awareness of the disease and find a cure. Main Library: Thursday, Jan. 14, 7 to 8 p.m. Sussex County Library Knitters & Crocheters Join other knitters at the Main Library every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn new stitches, make new friends and share patterns. Evening Purls of Wisdom The Evening Purls of Wisdom knitting group invites experienced and new knitters to bring their projects and supplies and join them at the Dorothy Henry Library. The group usually meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 7 to 8:15 p.m., but times may vary so please call the branch in advance at 973-827-8095. No registration required.
