Lawers defend integrity of waterfront
Sparta Michael Garofalo, an attorney at Laddey, Clark & Ryan of Sparta, has been retained by Fund for a Better Waterfront, Inc. to help them preserve the integrity of the waterfront on the Hudson River for the citizens of Hoboken. Fund for a Better Waterfront, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the New Jersey shoreline along the Hudson River as public parkland. Fund for a Better Waterfront and Laddey, Clark and Ryan had previously joined forces to oppose a 3.2 million-square-foot development along the waterfront, which was eventually defeated by public referendum. In that battle, the law firm’s Senior Partner Richard Clark fought to achieve the dramatic result. Garofalo is no stranger to the issues plaguing the non-profit group. They are fighting the construction of a large parking garage which they argue would degrade the integrity of the waterfront. Garofalo was retained last year to fight the construction of this garage - arguing before the Hoboken Zoning Board, the Superior Court and the Appellate Division - that the garage proposal was completely out of step with the city’s development regulations. The massive garage was not built. However, in the year since, plans have been made to build a garage half the size of the original. Fund for a Better Waterfront has asked the firm to oppose these new plans. The firm is pleased to be doing such important work across the state.
