Lafayette names D'Angeli mayor
LAFAYETTE-The township reorganization meeting saw the swearing in of committee members for the calendar year 2005. Under Lafayette's form of government, the council and not the electorate select a mayor and deputy mayor each year for a one-year term. This year the township committee chose John D'Angeli as mayor and George Sweeney as deputy Mayor. D'Angeli's interest in public service began some 24 years ago when he became a member of the Lafayette Planning and Zoning Board (now the Land Use Board). Four years later he was elected to the town committee and has served ever since. An army veteran of the Korean War, he is retired from his business of operating Shell gas stations. His wife, Joann, has been a freeholder for six years and is now a member of the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority. The D'Angeli's relocated to Lafayette from Bergen County, and have never regretted the move. Sussex County has been good to live in, especially Lafayette," the mayor said. "I'm looking forward to working with this council and to continuing our good relationship. We have provided a service to the town and will continue to provide it." Sweeney is also an army veteran of the Korean War who has been a committee member for eight years. Another transplant, he moved from West Orange and was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 34 years before retirement.
