Knights cook to support men preparing as priests

Ogdensburg The Marquette Council 588 of the Knights of Columbus showed off their culinary talents at a pancake breakfast Feb. 24 to raise funds in support of men preparing for the priesthood. The meal was held at St. Thomas of Aquin Church in Ogdensburg. Chapter treasurer Phil Tangorra only recently welcomed his son back from two years of study at Gregorian University in the Vatican. Currently training at St. Cecilia Church in Rockaway, Philip-Michael Tangorra is scheduled to become a priest next year. According to Grand Knight Kevin Cavanagh, the Marquette Council 588 is currently lending financial support to three seminarians; Jean Claude St. Martin, originally of Haiti, who should become a priest in May, 2008; Tangorra, a Pope John graduate, who is expected to complete his training in 2009; and Brian Quinn, also a Pope John graduate, who will complete his preparations in 2010. “The Knights have had a dozen such fundraisers at Our Lady of the Lake in Sparta and this is the third at St. Thomas,” Cavanagh said. The council has already supported two men who have completed their training, Father Brian Ditullio in 2006 and Father William Santilez in 2007. Marquette Council 588 covers Ogdensburg, Franklin and Sparta.
