Kick-a-thon for Vernon student with leukemia

Vernon Pace Institute of Karate is holding a kick-a-thon to benefit the family of 14-year-old Micayla Wynn of Vernon, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, during Pace’s in-house tournament at the Barry Lakes Clubhouse. While Micayla is responding well at this time to her treatment, her family is undergoing a severe financial hardship. Between lost time at work, uncovered costs for medication, insurance co-pays and deductibles, the bills are piling up for the long-time Vernon residents. As a young child, Micayla trained at the Pace Institute of Karate in Vernon. When he heard of her misfortune, the school’s director, Shihan Michael Pace wanted to help and organized this fundraiser. Pace students and area children can get forms to sign up sponsors. To donate visit www.pacekarate.com/wynn or call 973-764-2467.
