Jefferson teen puts on a bright and twinkly show

Jefferson Township — Eighteen-year-old Kevin Pattky Jr. has been putting on his Christmas light show since 2005. He puts everything aside to focus on the light show, which this year features seven inflatables including an elephant, soldier, snowman, Santa and reindeer, snowglobe and the main feature: a 12-foot tall Santa Claus that looms larger than the house located at 7 Osage Trail. “It’s what I look forward to all December,” Kevin said. And he wants help from no one in putting on this show — that includes his dad. The reason for his passion is simple: “Just the reactions on people’s faces when they see it,” he said. Kevin named the show “A Jefferson Christmas.” The lights went on the day after Thanksgiving causing a miniature blackout in the process. “Nothing ever goes right the first day,” he jokes. With more than 3,000 moving lights that flash in harmony with Kevin’s choice of 20 songs, it’s a small wonder. Luckily for him, the blackout lasted just a couple of hours. Next year upgrades to the household’s electrical system are planned to help achieve this teen’s dream of a television worthy professional display. And Kevin does have plenty of plans for next year. “I already drew the house,” he says. The plans include more LED’s because they are so popular and whatever other ideas comes his way now that he’s a Planet Christmas Group member. Planet Christmas Group is a Web site devoted to lights enthusiasts like Kevin, where plenty of expert tips are available to help with his grandiose plans.
