NEWTON — Through a grassroots internal campaign, the employees of Newton Memorial Hospital raised $2,500 for the Haiti Relief Fund. The hospital’s Senior Management Team matched the amount for a total $5,000 donation. The money will go to the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which will ensure all funds from the hospital are donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund. These funds will specifically assist with acquiring resources and supplies for victims of the Haiti earthquake. “The devastation in Haiti has been overwhelming and your support will directly help those in need,” Newton Memorial Hospital President and CEO Tom Senker said in a memo to employees. “Amid the devastation, however, we have witnessed many miracles such as victims being pulled alive from the wreckage in the weeks following the earthquake. The power of the human spirit is truly remarkable and immensely inspiring.” Patricia Day, the executive director of the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross, recently accepted the donation from Newton Memorial Vice President of Development Megan Sandow. “Five thousand dollars is a very generous donation,” Day said. “We appreciate the support that Newton Memorial Hospital has shown for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.”
