HIGHLAND LAKES — The Highland Lakes community will hold its 50th annual art show at the Highland Lakes Clubhouse this Sunday, Aug. 23, featuring both professional and amateur art work. Professional artists will demonstrate their craft throughout the day, and include: floral arranging, watercolor painting, calligraphy, pottery and stained glass making. New art categories this year include “the best use of the number 50” and floral arranging. The professional art exhibit features fine art paintings and prints, crafts, photography, stained glass, sculpture and more created by professional artists within the Highland Lakes community membership. The amateur division of the show features crafts, quilts, photography, needlework and artwork in a variety of media. Approximately 200 entries are submitted each year by Highland Lakes members of all ages. Professional artists, photographers and crafters from the Highland Lakes community and neighboring areas judge entries in the amateur show. At the conclusion of the show, gifts and ribbons are awarded to winners within each art category and age group. The art show runs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is open for viewing to the public. Admission is free.
