Hardyston — The Hardyston Sewing Stars after-school 4-H club members have been using their new sewing skills to help the school and the community. They’ve learned new ways to cut fabric using quilter’s tools and new ways of sewing fabric together using overlock machines. Club members made cushions called Anti-Ouch Pouches that are given to breast cancer patients, and were donated to The Sparta Cancer Center for distribution. They mended classroom aprons for art students at Harydston Middle School and at Hardyston Elementary, club members helped third-graders in Brownie Troop 1130 stitch baby receiving blankets that were sent to the Maternal/Child Gentle Birth Clinic in Haiti. Mindful not to waste a thing, leftover fabric scraps were used to make mini quilts for teddy bears.
