    On August 8, 2008 at 12:41 a.m., the Hardyston Police, Fire and EMS responded to an activated fire alarm at Advanced Storage, 3640 Route 94 in Hardyston Township. Upon arrival Hardyston Police found one of the storage facility buildings engulfed in flames. Fire departments, First Aid Squads and personnel from approximately 26 different agencies responded to the fire. The easternmost building housed approximately 104 storage units. The building and its contents were completely destroyed in the fire. The other buildings were unaffected by the fire. One Hardyston Firefighter was taken to Saint Clare’s Hospital for smoke inhalation, was treated and released. Route 94 in Hardyston was closed until approximately 8 a.m. The cause of the fire has been deemed undetermined but not suspicious. The fire is under investigation by the Hardyston Township Police Department, Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, Sussex County Fire Marshall and the NJSP Arson unit. On April 28 and 29, 2008 a business on Route 94 in Hardyston was burglarized. Cash was stolen during the two burglaries. On August 8, Elise Mazetta, age 28 of Hardyston and a juvenile, age 17 of Hardyston were arrested and charged with the burglaries. Mazetta was lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $17,500 bail. The juvenile was released pending an appearance in Juvenile court. On July 25, Hardyston Police Patrolman Andrew Norman was en route to a call when he came upon a two-vehicle crash on Route 94 in front of the Hardyston Mercantile Mall. An investigation revealed that 23-year-old Christian Garrett of Sparta was negotiating a left-hand turn into the Mercantile Mall parking lot from Route 94 north while operating a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle. A 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 62-year-old Richard Bell of Sussex was also traveling north on Route 94 and while attempting to overtake Garrett, struck his motorcycle. Both drivers were treated at the scene by members of the Hardyston Township Police Department, Hardyston Township First Aid Squad and the Wallkill Valley First Aid Squad. Garrett was transported to Newton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Assisting at the scene were members of the Sussex County Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team, the Hardyston Township Fire Department and Hamburg Police. The NJ DOT Traffic Diversion Team diverted traffic from the affected area until the road was opened at approximately 7:15 p.m. On July 20, while on an unrelated investigation, Patrolman Michael Masters arrested John T. Brovich, 46, of Hardyston for possession of drug paraphernalia. Brovich was released pending an appearance in Hardyston Municipal Court. On July 20, Hardyston Police responded to a disturbance call in the Carlton Village section of Hardyston. The investigation led to the arrest of Gary M. Allibone, 23,of Hardyston. He was charged with providing alcohol to underage persons. He was released pending an appearance in Hardyston Municipal Court. Patrolman Michael Masters investigated. On July 19, at 7:24 p.m., Patrolman Michael Masters of the Hardyston Police Department arrested Brandon J. Henkelman, 19, of Vernon. Patrolman Masters attempted to stop Henkelman who was traveling on Route 94 on an all-terrain vehicle. Henkelman was charged with eluding, underage drinking and driving, unregistered ATV, uninsured ATV, unlicensed driver and failure to wear a helmet. Henkelman was released pending an appearance in Hardyston Municipal Court. On July 16 at 5:28 p.m., Hardyston Police responded to a residential burglary in the Deer Trail section of Hardyston Township. On July 17 at 5:19 p.m. another burglary was reported in the same area. An investigation by the Hardyston Township Police Detective Bureau, West Milford Police Detective Bureau and the Ringwood Police Detective Bureau led to the arrest of Dymonique Keyes, 19, of Greenwood Lake, N.Y., and Matthew Mercorella, 19, of West Milford. Keyes was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and two counts of criminal mischief. Keyes was lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. Mercorella was charged with one count of burglary, one count of theft and one count of criminal mischief. Mercorella was lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Also arrested was Alex Urena, 19, of Hewitt. He was charged with receiving stolen property and released on his own recognizance. Detective Karl Ludwig, Detective Robert Zicarelli, Detective David White investigated. On July 16, at 5:28 p.m. the Hardyston Police responded to a motorcycle accident on Wits End Road in the Carlton Village section of Hardyston. The investigation found that Timothy Greener, 22, of Vernon was charged with being unlicensed, driving suspended, unregistered, no insurance, no inspection nand leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. Greener was not injured in the crash and was released pending an appearance in Hardyston Municipal Court. Patrolman Brad Worman investigated. On July 13 at 2:11 a.m. the Hardyston Police responded to a noise complaint on Shauger Terrace in Hardyston Township. The investigation led to he arrest of Garrett F. Winton, 19, of Hardyston Township, who was charged with providing alcoholic beverages to an underage persons. He was released pending an appearance in Hardyston Municipal Court.
