Hardyston Day 2005
Hardyston Day 2005 filled the spring-green meadow across from the new municipal building with balloons, bravo boys and beautiful girls; clowns, craftsman and chainsaw carvers, and pony rides and popcorn. "This event is a celebration for the children of Hardyston," said Township Manager Marianne Smith, who served a master of ceremonies in the Little Miss and Little Mister Hardyston pageants, where Maria Cunnnelly and Ryan Kostelnick earned this year's titles. Smith also "emceed" the Junior Miss Hardyston pageants, where Breeann Laughlin was awarded the crown for 2005. "I'm so happy to be able to represent my community," said Laughlin, as she stepped from the stage into her parent's arms. Judges for this year's contests were Belinda Gayle, Jodi Mix and Sarah Wright. Suzanne Cahill, director of the Littell Recreation Center coordinated the pageants events. Hardyston firefighters delighted cheering children by towing them in a red trailer around the running-track perimeter. A Crosley tractor painted fire engine red and adorned by balloons and streamers drew the trailer. Police and public works employees tested police car radar by vying to throw the fastest baseball. At least one of the balls clocked in at close to 70 miles per hour. "This is one more great Hardyston Day," said Councilman Wayne Ross.
