Hamburg Republicans reject Councilman Joseph M. Marano

    Hamburg Councilman Joseph Marano failed to win the Republican nomination for one of two seats available this fall on the borough council, according to unofficial returns at the Sussex County Board of Elections. Marano, who has feuded with Mayor Paul Marino, finished third in the four-way Republican primary behind Councilman Richard Krasnomowitz and Daniel P. Barr. Darlene D. Borromeo finished fourth in the four-way race. No Democrats filed for the primary. In Hardyston, where two seats are available, Democrat Hilda Weightman will try to unseat Republican incumbents Kenneth Kievit, the mayor, and Leslie Hamilton. In Ogdensburg, where two seats will be available this fall, one Democrat, Simonetta L. Erb, will face off against Republicans Gene Alterburg and Robert Peist. In the crowded Republican gubernatorial primary, Doug Forrester easily carried Sussex County with Bret D. Schundler finishing second and John Murphy third. Sen. Jon S. Corzine finished well ahead of two Democratic challengers in the county for their party's nod. Two Assembly seats are available in the county. Incumbent Republicans Guy R. Gregg and Alison Littell McHose will face Democrats Thomas B. Boyle and Brian S. Murphy. No Democrats filed for one Freeholder seat that will be up for election, and Republican Gary R.
