    Aug. 25 Two arrested for drug related offenses At 12:03 a.m., a 1995 Saab being driven by Mark A. Vanschaik, 20, of Hewitt, was stopped on Route 23 for multiple equipment violations. After a brief roadside investigation, Vanschaik was arrested for drug impaired DWI. Additionally, his passenger, Sean V. Pelissier, 19, of Hewitt, was arrested for possession of marijuana. Vanschaik has been charged with maintenance of lamps, view obstruction, loud exhaust, drug impaired DWI, DWI in a school zone, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Pelissier was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Both men were released from custody pending appearances in the Hamburg Municipal Court. Patrolman David McNulty investigated the incident and was assisted by Patrolman Andrew Chase, Both officers were on duty for the Over the Limit Under Arrest 2009 statewide crackdown. Tailgating and cellphone use lead to DWI arrest At 9:34 p.m., a 2003 Cadillac Escalade driven by Christopher C. Diehl, 19, of Hohokus, was stopped on Route 23 after the driver was observed tailgating and using a cell phone. After a brief roadside investigation, Diehl was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, following too closely and use of a cell phone while driving, Diehl was released pending an appearance in the Hamburg Municipal Court. Sgt. Aug. 30 Vernon man arrested for DWI and resisting arrest At 1:17 a.m., a 2006 Nissan being driven by Carl J. Oravits, 36, of Vernon, was stopped after being observed failing to stop before making a right on red and for making a prohibited right on red at the intersection of Mountain and Quarry roads. After a brief roadside investigation, Oravits was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and struggled briefly with officers during handcuffing. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test, right on red prohibited, failure to stop before making a right on red and resisting arrest. Oravits was released from custody pending an appearance in the Hamburg Municipal Court. Sgt. Erik Aronson investigated the incident, and was assisted by Patrolman David McNulty.
