Group home planned for Cemetery Road
WANTAGE Wantage Township has committed $100,000 to help fund a group home for four developmentally-disabled adults on Cemetery Road. By pledging the funding, the town stands to earn four credits from the Council on Affordable Housing. These credits would offset other affordable housing that must be built in the township, according to state law. The overall number of units required is based on a 10-year plan that fluctuates based on economic conditions. The four-bedroom single home, located at 97 Cemetery Rd., is currently bank-owned and has been vacant for at least a year, said Donna Gallup, executive director of SEED Corp., an East Orange-based non-profit organization that strives to increase affordable housing opportunities in northern New Jersey. The residents would be placed in the home by Capitol Care, Inc., a Stanhope-based behavioral healthcare organization, which will be operating the home. It’s not clear at this point where the residents are currently living. Wantage’s funding pledge was unanimously approved by the three-person Township Committee at its Dec. 10 meeting.
