Franklin Scouts reach heights in town pride

Franklin — Members of Troop 90 participated in the Franklin townwide cleanup, collecting many bags of trash along the roads and highway frontage in town. After the cleanup and a quick trail lunch the troop hiked to the top of Hamburg Mountain (more than 1,000 feet up) to get a bird’s-eye view of the town they just helped beautify. After the descent from the peak, the Scouts set up camp at the Franklin Pond, spending the evening overlooking the waters. The troop’s bugler played “Taps” at sunset with a serenade by several Canada geese. Upon their wake-up Sunday morning, many of the boys continued their cleanup with an amphibious trash attack by the boys and leaders in their kayaks and canoes. Several of the troop members are in training for a 100-mile canoe trek in upstate New York this summer. The troop is sponsored by Franklin Rec and has adopted the pond, performing many service and Eagle Scout projects to make the pond that much nicer. To join, contact Gary Hintzen at 973-827-3194.
