Five seek three seats on school board

Vernon — On Tuesday, April 20, the residents of Vernon Township will be making some changes to the school board. There are three seats coming open, and only one incumbent, John McGowan, is seeking re-election. Former board President Howard J. Whidden is retiring after over 20 years as a member, and Michael Kirchmer is giving up his seat after six years. There are four newcomers seeking a position on the board: David Zweier, Christine Mentone, Lori Parrott and William J. Higgins. The public will also be voting on the proposed school budget for 2010-2011, totalling $66 million. Polls will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.
