Inaugural ‘Can Man Open’ designed to boost local high school seniors Vernon — The Liz and Connie Desmond Memorial Fund was established in 2009 by former Vernon Councilman Neil Desmond, who named the fund for his parents, who recently lost their battles with cancer. Desmond said he “established the scholarship in an effort to promote the educational pursuits of Vernon Township High School senior student athletes who exemplify the dignity, honor, hard work and self-discipline required by today’s young men and women student athletes.” The scholarship’s sponsored by the Liz and Connie Desmond Memorial Fund will be funded through the “Can Man Open” golf outing to be held annually at Crystal Springs Resort in Hardyston. This year’s inaugural Can Man Open will be held on Friday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. The entrance fee/donation of $150 will include welcome gifts, 18 holes of golf with cart, dinner, awards for long drive, closest to the pin, closest to the line and other tournament prizes. Additionally there will be an opportunity to participate in a raffle, 50/50 drawing as well as a silent auction. Registration forms and additional information can be found on the web at www.canmanopen.com.
