Franklin — A three-car accident Saturday afternoon on Route 23 sent a 6-year-old to Chilton Memorial Hospital’s emergency room and a 16-year-old to St. Clare’s emergency room. It was raining hard and very windy at the time of the crash. Lisa A. Richards, 39, from Highland Lakes, was driving a Honda Element heading northbound on Route 23 and police say she failed to yield the right of way as she tried to turn left into Salon 23. Her car was struck by a Jeep Liberty going southbound and driven by Yavette B. Lawrence, 38, of Hamburg. Lawrence’s car then slid into northbound traffic on Route 23 and struck a Honda Accord driven by Travis Newarski, 23, of Glenwood. The 6-year-old, a passenger in Richards’ vehicle, was transported by members of the Ogdensburg First Aid Squad to Chilton Memorial Hospital with a head injury. The 16-year-old was a passenger in Lawrence’s vehicle and was transported by Wallkill Valley First Aid Squad members to St. Clare’s Hospital in Sussex for treatment of leg injuries. After police completed their investigation of the crash, Richards was issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving. The accident was investigated by Officer Ryan Churchwell with Lt. Eugene McInerney assisting at the scene.
