Training session planned to guide people interested in public office Newton — The Sussex County Democratic Committee has issued a countywide call for candidates. “There are many people in our county who feel strongly that their voices are not being heard,” said Chairman Ed Selby. “We are calling on them to come forward and learn what it takes to either be a candidate or run a campaign. We are looking for people with fresh viewpoints and the energy it takes to serve and lead.” To this end, Sussex Democrats have scheduled a seminar, “So You Want to Run for Office,” where they will review the basics of running a campaign, from filing paperwork to fundraising to voter outreach. The seminar is designed to help potential candidates seeking any level of elected office, including county committee, school board, councilperson, mayor, freeholder or higher office. The training session will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at 93 Spring Street, third floor. To reserve a space, call 973-383-6952. “Our goal is to help people who are interested in running for office,” said Mike Busche, executive director of the Sussex County Democratic Committee. “We want to demystify the process and let people know how easy it is to get started and how rewarding the experience can be.” Selby concluded: “There are people in every town who would make great leaders. They are serv-ing in community organizations, their churches, and even on appointed public boards and com-mittees. Too often they are not invited to get more involved, to apply their valuable talent and experience to elective office. That’s what our call for candidates is all about. If you want to serve, we want to help.”
