Chiropractors tie weight-loss to charity

Hamburg Losing weight is never easy. It takes willpower and determination. It takes commitment and sometimes it takes an extra incentive. For some that something extra might be knowing that while losing weight and increasing health overall, they are earning money for charity in the process. Working on this premise, chiropractors and brothers Andrew and Michael Grano, of Grano Pain Relief & Wellness Center, with locations in Hamburg, Newton and Oak Ridge, are launching something they call weight loss for charity challenge. Every pound of fat lost by each participant will translate to a $5 donation to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association, whose aim is to eradicate obesity and obesity-related diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. The Granos have coordinated the challenge with a weight loss program they promote. All participants in the charity Weight-Loss-A-Thon must join the Grano Ideal Protein Weight Loss program, a protein-based diet, that includes products the Granos sell. “This is a physician supervised weight loss program designed to lose an average of three to seven pounds per week and each person will have an initial consultation to make sure that any health issues they may have would contraindicate their starting the program,” said Andrew Grano. According to information on their Web site, the program “is an easy 4-phase protocol which helps stabilize the pancreas and blood sugar levels while burning fat and maintaining muscle and other lean tissue.” As chiropractors, the Granos say they see on a daily basis how carrying extra weight can adversely impact a patient’s wellbeing. “Statistics show that one third of all Americans are obese and this substantially increases their chance of developing heart disease, diabetes and many other health-related issues,” said Michael Grano. “We believe that this fundraiser will prove to be a good motivator for people to turn around their weight issues while giving back,” he added. Raising money During the fundraiser participants will make a commitment to lose weight for the organization of their choice, either the American Hearth Association or the American Diabetes Association. Once they have weighed in they will start to secure pledges and begin their weight loss program. “Our goal is to lose a total of one thousand pounds, which will translate to $5,000 for the charities. We hope to involve a lot of local businesses and their employees and families,” said Andrew Grano.
