Celebrating Thanksgiving

While Americans prepare to celebrate and give thanks with family and friends, first- and second-grade students at Hamburg School readied themselves for their own holiday feast. To begin they studied the history of the first Thanksgiving festival at Plymouth, Mass. Then they planned and prepared their own school feast which included making their own butter. First-graders dressed as Pilgrims while second-graders wore Native American outfits for the feast. The school cafeteria staff served turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and cinnamon apples. The teachers brought in home baked pumpkin, blueberry, cranberry and corn muffins. Songs were sung and to get to know each other, everyone sat in new seats for the day with their teachers enjoying the fruits of their labor too. When Victoria Magazeno was asked what she was thankful for she said, “I really liked the stuffing today.” Ashley McLean enjoyed the “singing the Mr. Turkey’ song. We tell the turkeys to run away or they’ll be a mouthful today.”
