WANTAGE — With the foundation already laid for a Veterans’ Memorial Monument at Woodbourne Park, the Wantage Township Recreation Committee is hopeful that fundraising from an upcoming car show will enable it to complete the project and unveil it on Memorial Day 2010. Greg Williams, a Wantage veteran who is spearheading the Veterans’ Memorial project, said $15,000 is needed to complete the project, including granite monuments honoring veterans of each major conflict the U.S. has been involved in since the Revolutionary War. The monument will feature a 5-foot stone pillar in the center of the display adorned with a 36-inch bronze battle cross. Roughly $10,000 has been raised to meet the recreation commission’s goal of completing the project and holding an unveiling ceremony on Memorial Day in 2010, he said. The recreation committee is planning its second annual car show to benefit the project at Woodbourne Park on Sat., Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for 40 different classes of cars, trucks and motorcycles. The event will also include live entertainment, food, goodie bags, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. Rain date is Oct. 11.
