SUSSEX - The Sussex Borough Council has awarded a $28,000 contract to Harold E. Pellow & Associates, Inc. of Augusta for designing road reconstruction plans for Lakeview Terrace. The borough received a $250,000 grant late last year to resurface the road, which has been deteriorating for the last several years following shoddy construction work by two sets of developers. The borough had applied for $373,000 in state grants to repair the road and help pay for curb replacement and the resetting or reconstruction of failing stormwater basins, according to an engineering report that was originally prepared by Golden and Moran Engineering, LLC in Newton. But with a smaller grant in hand, the borough has decided to scale back the project and have it re-engineered by Pellow’s firm, said Sussex Borough Clerk Cathy Gleason. The borough expects to put the project out to bid by this fall and begin the work next spring, said Gleason.
