Board to open school additions to Lafayette Township residents
LAFAYETTE-The Board of Education of the township school district is inviting all residents to explore and use the new facilities at the school built with the proceeds of a bond issue approved by the voters several years ago. The board has initiated two community outreach programs developed to "branch out into the community, encouraging the residents to take advantage of the wonderful facilities that have been approved by this community during the referendum." One program invites the community to use the latest computer technology the district was able to add through a building addition in 2003. The computer lab will be open from 6-8 p.m. every Wednesday and alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays. A monitor will be assigned to supervise and assist in all computer room activities. Although the lab is open to all residents, children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Residents will sign in and be asked to provide identification before using the facility. Technology education opportunities will also be considered after the board is able to get a reading on how many people make use of the facilities. The board also agreed to open the new gym for public use one or two nights a month. Exact dates have not been determined, but the board said the first open date will be this month, after the winter basketball season.
