ATV accident injurs man

    vernon-Shane Sonntag ,31, of Highland Lakes was seriously injured last Saturday when he lost control of his ATV on Acabonic Road and hit a parked camper/trailer, Vernon Township Police said. The accident occurred at 9:28 p.m., according to police reports. Sonntag, who was wearing a helmet sustained serious injuries to his left leg and was flown to Morristown Memorial Hospital for treatment. ATV riding has been a controversial issue in the township this summer. The vehicles may be ridden only on private property and are not legal on roads. ATV riders have appeared before the township council asking for a place where they can enjoy their hobby. Sonntag was cited for reckless driving, careless driving, no insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, "as well as other related offenses," police said.
