Are they among the most dancing zombies ever?

St. Joseph students help attempt to break world’s record, By C.G. Moore NEWTON — In an attempt to break the world record of 4,179 people dancing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” simultaneously, dancers from 10 countries and across five continents came together, virtually, to dance the famous routine...including a few in Newton. On Oct. 24 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, the zombies gathered across the world. As the Thriller beat began, the zombies came to life. They rose from the ground, stomped to the beat, and “something was lurking in the dark” for sure. Thrill The World is an annual worldwide simultaneous dance event that honors Michael Jackson and his famous “Thriller” dance and song. Volunteers organize events using a Thrill the World manual. There is no age requirement and no limit to the number of events in any given city. Each event has the option to raise money for a local charity or to simply be a part of breaking the world’s record. St. Joseph Regional School in Newton has been practicing the dance for several weeks and zombie dancers came to life at the appointed time worldwide. Led by teacher Maureen Dugan, children in first- through eighth-grades as well as several parents danced in unison. “I enjoyed teaching them the moves and had so much fun working on this with the kids. It was great exercise and the kids really got involved and hopefully we were a part of a new world record,” said Dugan. Registration of each participant and videos of each event had to be submitted with 30 minutes of the dance.
