Ames Rubber lays off 25
Hamburg Ames Rubber Corp. laid off 25 employees in a move that its president said was not linked to seniority. Those terminated include people in administration and production, said Chuck Roberts, president and CEO. “Some were here for 30-some years, some for six months.” Layoffs, which took place June 5, were “arranged according to what contracts were affected or orders were affected, based on” anticipated changes in orders for the company’s products. Roberts said Ames will have “cutbacks ... in our roller business and in our safety products.” Meanwhile, the company is still strong, Roberts said, with 195 employees remaining. “We are still up 80 people from where we were about a year ago. Our sales are going to be up about 20 percent from a year ago,” he said. Ames is supplier of elastomeric design solutions to international, high-tech customers who require molded components, protective coatings and dispensed gaskets.
