    VERNON-The event runs from 1-5 p.m. on this Sunday, April 24 at the Vernon PAL complex on Church Street. There is no charge for admission. All afternoon, visitors may sample organic food and coffee, get massages, plant flowers and learn about local trails. Alternative-fuel cars, including a Toyota Prius and a Ford Escape powered by a fuel cell will be on display along with canoes, kayaks, patio suites, lawn furniture and grills. A representative from Tom's of Maine will demonstrate how to make your own toothpaste. Visitors may also learn about renewable energy and how to build a garden pond, waterfall or stream. The township health department will conduct free screenings for blood pressure, spinal health and stress. The SCFA animal shelter will have pets for adoption. Among the giveaways will be tree seedlings, health food products, and solar-power kits for kids.
