The Nosenzo sisters remembered

Noreena (Nosenzo) Mancini, and Mary (Nosenzo) Walters - sisters and daughters of the late Ernest and Lousia Nosenzo of Upper Macopin N.J., both recently entered into the Lord’s rest. Noreena was born in 1916 in Apshawa N.J, to Ernest and Lousia Nosenzo, and died in California, on August 10, 2008. She was 92 years old. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years Gene Mancini, and is survived by her three sons: Ernest Mancini of Las Vegas, Nev., Gene Mancini of Carlsbad, Ca., and Phillip Mancini of San Diego, Ca., and their families. Noreena and Gene owned the Amoco station in Upper Greenwood Lake for many years until they sold the business and moved to Arizona, and later to Southern California. She loved the spring time of the year when the Dogwood trees were in bloom. Mary was born on Jan. 9, 1920 in Apshawa, N.J., as well. She died in Chester N.Y., on January 1, 2009, just shy of her 89 birthday. She is predeceased by her husband of 35 years, John Walters, and is survived by her five children: Diana Wood of Walton, N.Y., John Walters of Fairlawn, N.J., Lois Chamberlain of Jupiter, Fla., Linda Petronzio of West Milford, N.J., Peter Brayda of Tomkins Cove, N.Y., and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mary and John lived on Cozy Lake in Jefferson Township for many years until they moved to West Paterson and then retired to West Palm Beach Florida. They loved Florida and spent many years together there enjoying the flowers and warm weather. Nosenzo Pond Road is named after the sisters’s father, Ernesto Nosenzo, who purchased the property around 1916 and turned the farm into a restaurant from the 1920’s to 1959 when he sold the business. He also built the lake in 1920. His name and those who helped from the community are still visible on the eastern most side of the dam, according to his grandson and Mary’s son, Peter Brayda. A combined memorial service for the sisters was held at the Living Hope Fellowship Church, in Tomkins Cove, N.Y., on Sunday, May 17.
