Robert Lawrence Callahan

    Robert Lawrence Callahan, 82 years old, died after a short illness at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice, Fredon Twp., N.J., on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Born to Stanley and Rhea Callahan in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he has lived in Hamburg for more than 50 years.

    Robert had a BA in English and served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He then worked as a salesman for many major oil companies before becoming the director of the Sussex County Office of Aging in Newton, where he worked for many years; he then retired from there in 1996 and worked 3 years as director of marketing for the New Jersey State HMO. Robert was a parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle RC Church, Hamburg, N.J., and a member of the Wallkill Valley VFW Post No. 8441 in Vernon, N.J. He chaired the Board of Directors for Wallkill Valley Hospital, served on the Board of Directors for Franklin Hospital and was a former Hamburg councilman and Wallkill Valley Country Club Member.

    Robert is the beloved husband of Dorothy Callahan(nee Monahan) of Hamburg, N.J. Devoted father of Christopher Callahan and his wife, Miriam, of Exeter, N.H., and Kathleen Callahan of Hamburg, N.J. Loving grandfather of Erin Callahan and her husband, Terence Galloghly of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Neil Callahan of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Katherine Callahan of Exeter, N.H.

    The family received their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin, N.J., on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass followed at St. Jude the Apostle RC Church, Hamburg, NJ at 10 a.m. Light refreshments and remembrances were shared after the Mass at the church. Interment will be Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
