    Deborah A. Slater, 60 years old, died after a courageous battle with cancer at Newton Medical Center on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014. Born in Newark, N.J. to Andrew and Marjorie Thaller, Deborah was raised in Garfield, N.J.

    Deborah started working while in high school as a diner waitress. Her career topped off in 1985 when she was employed by the Parsippany Hilton as a hostess and later promoted to restaurant manager. In 1992, Deborah started her own cleaning business, Debann’s Cleaning service. Although she worked hard her whole life, she enjoyed spending free time fishing and crabbing on the pier at “The Docks”. There her nickname was “The Crab Lady”.

    Deborah was predeceased by her mother Marjorie Thaller, brother Eddie and sister, Anna. She is survived by her father, Andrew Thaller, her husband of 35 years, Walter Slater of Ogdensburg, N.J., her daughter, Melanie Ievoli of Naples, FL, son, Eric Slater, of Ogdensburg, NJ, daughter Christine Slater of Palmetto, FL and son Robert Slater of Ogdensburg, N.J. Sisters Marjorie, Joann, June and a brother Andy. Deborah is blessed with 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

    The family received their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin, N.J.m on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. Funeral service was Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
