    Benjamin Edward Harty, Jr., 81 years old, died after a short illness at his daughter’s residence on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Born to Benjamin E. Harty, Sr. and Marguerite Harty in Stonetown, N.J., he had lived in Wanaque, N.J., Wayne, N.J., and Lake Ariel, Pa., before moving to Franklin, N.J., three years ago.

    Mr. Harty served in the United States Army during the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers and then worked as a Boiler Operator for Arrow Metals in Haskell, N.J., and then was a groundskeeper for Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque, N.J. He also volunteered as a farmhand for many years for local farmers. He was a member of the VFW Post #6765 in Wanaque, N.J, VFW Post #6520 in Cortez, Pa. and American Legion Post #132, Franklin, N.J.

    Mr. Harty was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Dolores M. Harty (2013), a son, Benjamin E. Harty, Jr.(1993), and several brothers and sisters and was the devoted father of Darlene Wixon of Walker Valley, N.Y., Theodora Harty of Virginia and Dawn Rueckel of Hamburg, N.J. Loving grandfather of Sherry Ann Byrne, Samuel Wixon, Jr., Justine, Constance, John Rueckel, III and Jacob. Cherished great-grandfather of Samuel Wixon, III, Lillian and Elliana. Dear brother of Gertrude, Mae, Joyce and Gary. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

    The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main St., Franklin, N.J., on Saturday, June 21, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. Funeral service will commence at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
