Cadet receives squad scholarship

SPARTA Elizabeth Parriott was awarded Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad’s 2009 Herbert H. Orel Memorial Scholarship. Each year the squad presents the Herbert H. Orel Memorial Scholarship to an outstanding Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad cadet who is a senior in high school and will go on to college. Orel was a member of the squad for many years and founded the squad’s cadet corps. His work with the young people of Sparta made an impact on many lives, and it is with great pride that his life and work are remembered with these scholarships. Parriott is a graduate of Sparta High School and will attend the College of New Jersey where she plans to major in biomedical engineering. She is the daughter of Colleen and Don Parriott, who are also squad members. Elizabeth’s sister Angela was the recipient of an Orel Memorial scholarship in 2007. Since 1947, Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad has provided 24-hour, compassionate, caring, volunteer emergency medical services to the Sparta community.
