Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday will be observed in Monroe, Woodbury, Harriman and Tuxedo with parades, services and ceremonies next Sunday and Monday, May 26 and 27:

Woodbury
Woodbury’s parade and memorial services will be held Sunday, May 26, at 1 p.m. The parade will be begin at Bond Street and head north on Route 32.

Marchers will pause at the Summit Avenue, Central Valley and Victory Park, Highland Mills monuments.

They will continue to the Cemetery of the Highlands where memorial services will be held at the Veterans Monument and the Fireman’s Monument.

The grand marshal will be Brendan (Pete) Reidy.

Monroe
The Memorial Day Parade in Monroe will be Sunday, May 26.

Sponsored by the Monroe Veterans Coalition Committee, the parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. from Smith Clove Park, proceed through the village, stop at the Veterans Memorial Park on 17M, and ending at the Monroe Cemetery with wreath-laying ceremonies and guest speakers.

Harriman
Village of Harriman will host Memorial Day ceremonies Monday, May 27, beginning with a 10 a.m. worship service at St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church, Route 17M in Harriman.

Following the worship service, a legion honor guard will place a wreath on the grave of Lawrence E. Mulligan who was killed in action in World War II.

At 11 a.m., honor guards of participating veterans organizations and Harriman Engine Company #1 will parade to the veterans memorial in the village square for ceremonies.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the group will proceed to the VFW memorial and the Second Lieutenant Emily J.T. Perez Memorial for a memorial service.

Tuxedo
Tuxedo will have a ceremony at the Southfields Memorial, located at the Tuxedo Police Station, beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

The parade will start at 11:30 a.m. at the George F. Baker Tuxedo High School and end at the Veterans Wall in front of St. Mary’s Church on Route 17.

A closing ceremony will be held on the lawn of St. Mary’s Church.

A reception will follow to benefit the Tuxedo Park Public Library immediately following the ceremony.
