Sparta man gets 8-year prison sentence in fatal crash

Attila Princz, 42, of Sparta was sentenced to eight years in state prison in connection with a crash that killed Erin Moore, 41, of Sparta in January 2022.

The sentence was imposed March 17 by Judge Michael Gaus at the Sussex County Courthouse.

Princz must serve 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for release. In addition, he must pay mandatory minimum fines and fees, lose his license for a mandatory minimum term and install an interlock device.

He previously was sentenced on a related DWI charge.

He pleaded guilty Jan. 11 to vehicular homicide and second-degree driving while intoxicated charges.

He admitted driving under the influence of alcohol which led to the head-on collision.

Suspended prison term

Mynor Acte Caal, 23, of Newton was sentenced to three years in state prison April 5.

The prison term was suspended with parole supervision for life.

Acte Caal also must forfeit all electronics seized, submit a DNA sample, abide by internet restrictions, and pay $875 in fines and fees.

He pleaded guilty on June 29, 2022, to third-degree possession of child pornography. He admitted possessing fewer than 1,000 images of child pornography via the internet.

3 years of probation

Joseph Scabet, 39, of Branchville was sentenced to three years probation March 24.

He also must complete a substance abuse program, drive only to and from treatment, and pay $1,207 in fines and fees.

He also was sentenced on a careless driving charge.

He pleaded guilty on Dec. 8, 2022, to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance and careless driving. He admitted operating his vehicle carelessly, causing a motor vehicle accident, while possessing fentanyl.

1 year of probation

Hector Hernandez, 44, of Stockholm was sentenced to one year of noncustodial probation and ordered to pay fines and fees March 10.

He pleaded guilty to third-degree failure to register Jan. 17, stemming from an incident in October 2022. The case was investigated by the Hardyston Police Department and Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
