More than three dozen Sussex County charities will learn this weekend the amounts of the donations they are to receive from the German Christmas Market in December.

The gifts to 38 charities will mean the Market Committee, a nonprofit organization led and staffed by Sussex County volunteers, will have donated nearly $500,000 to county charities since its founding in 2002.

Although individual donations are kept confidential, the total to be given this year will exceed $100,000, a record amount, said Sabine Watson, committee president.

The previous high, $75,000, was generated by the Christmas Market of 2021, the first year the event was held at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

The money will be distributed at an invitation-only event Sunday, March 12 at the fairgrounds.

The committee “supports charitable organizations that enhance the quality of life in Sussex County,” said Watson.. “This includes nonprofit organizations that provide programs or services in the areas of nutrition, health and safety advocacy, and education.”

The German Christmas Market needs many volunteers to be a success. Anyone wishing to help is asked to go online to www.germanchristmasmarketnj.org for information.
