NEWTON “Women’s Emotions” is a new support group sponsored by Project Self-Sufficiency and Newton Memorial Hospital and will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20 beginning at 6 p.m. The group will focus on issues surrounding anger, depression, stress and anxiety. Dr. Kim De Boer, an outpatient clinician at the Center for Mental Health at Newton Memorial Hospital, will facilitate the group, which will meet for six weeks at Project Self-Sufficiency’s campus at 127 Mill St. in Newton. De Boer has a doctorate in clinical psychology and currently works with patients of all ages with a broad range of diagnoses. During the six-week sessions, time will be allowed for individual consultations with De Boer, in addition to offering information about depression, stress, anxiety and anger within the group setting. “The goals for participants in this group are to increase self-esteem, learn to set realistic personal and professional goals, and to resolve the different symptoms of depression and anxiety through talk therapy,” De Boer said. “This group is important because it will empower women, give them strength to be independent, and it will allow the participants to support each other in achieving their goals.” Women’s Emotions is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
