Architect Alan Spector’s passive solar house uses energy 80 percent more efficiently than the average home through geothermal heating and solar orientation. He designed the house in 1984, when gas cost a mere $1.40 a gallon, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Now he’s very glad he did..
